Kahani (Premise)
1854 se 1878 tak — British colonial rule ke sabse andhere daur me, Rayalaseema ke Singanamala gaon me ek bachcha paida hota hai jise ek sage aashirvad dekar naam deta hai: Ranabaali. Gaon 1870s ke Madras famine ki maar jhel raha hai — bhookh, farmer suicides, aur British officers ka zulm. Jab zulm had se badh jaata hai, Ranabaali apne logon ko bachane ke liye hathiyar utha leta hai. Uski patni Jayamma (Rashmika Mandanna) bhi is resistance ka hissa banti hai — pregnant hote hue bhi woh Ranabaali ke saath khadi hoti hai. Saamne hai British commissioner Sir Theodore Hector (Arnold Vosloo).
Premise real history se inspired hai, isliye yahan zyada detail dena tumhare experience ko spoil karega. Bas itna samajh lo: ye underdog-rebellion ki kahani hai, jahan personal drama aur historical tragedy ek saath chalte hain.
Performances
Vijay Deverakonda (Ranabaali) — first-day reactions me unki effort ko sabne acknowledge kiya. “VD’s effort is visible” — kai viewers ne kaha. Interval block me unki intensity ko “god mode” tak kaha gaya. Lekin kuch critics ke mutabik unki characterization aur histrionics kahin-kahin odd lagte hain — period setting me unka modern swag sabko suit nahi karta.
Rashmika Mandanna (Jayamma) — Jayamma ke role me unhe kaafi tareef mili hai. “Excellent performance” kehne wale viewers bhi hain. Jayamma sirf love-interest nahi hai — trailer aur early reactions ke mutabik woh resistance me active participant hai, aur VD ke saath unki chemistry film ka sabse bada plus hai. Unki jodi Geetha Govindam aur Dear Comrade ke baad teesri baar screen par hai, aur comfort level dikhta hai.
Arnold Vosloo (Sir Theodore Hector) — British commissioner ke role me solid. Historical figure Sir Richard Temple par based character hai — ruthless coloniser ka portrayal convincing hai.
Direction Aur Technical Side
Rahul Sankrityan (Taxiwaala, Shyam Singha Roy) ne is project me 3 saal lagaye — 24 drafts, British gazettes aur Ballari Collectorate archives se research, burra katha storytelling tradition ka study. Ye sincerity screen par dikhti hai: production design aur set design ko lagbhag har early reaction ne praise kiya hai. 19th century Rayalaseema, famine-stricken gaon, British luxury vs local suffering ka contrast — visually film rich hai.
Problem execution me hai. “Dead slow screenplay” aur “flat narration” — ye do phrases first-day reactions me baar-baar aayi hain. Director real events ko sincerely batana chahta hai, lekin beaten-to-death British-backdrop par nayi energy nahi laa paata. Second half predictable ho jaati hai — repetitive scenes aur weak action execution (buildup to action sequences “underwhelming” bataya gaya).
Music/BGM bada disappointment hai — Ajay-Atul se expectations thi, lekin kai viewers ne BGM ko “huge letdown” kaha. Gaane theek hain, par background score dramatic moments ko elevate nahi karta.
VFX par mixed opinions hain — kuch sequences impressive, kuch me kami dikhti hai.
Critics Aur Audience Kya Keh Rahe Hain
Day 1 ke baad consensus: sincere intent, weak execution.
- Venky Reviews — 2/5: “Honest Intentions, Patience Testing Execution.” Production values aur VD ki effort ki tareef, par “strictly boring watch” ka verdict.
- SkyC Media — 2.5/5: “Sincere But Lacked Impact.” Chemistry, pre-interval sequence aur songs kaam karte hain; predictable writing aur excessive runtime nuksaan karte hain.
- Positive voices: Ek viewer ne direction ke liye 3.5/5 diye — “the way he handled the emotions, characters, and every scene shows his dedication.” Interval bang ko kai ne goosebumps-worthy bataya. Vijay Deverakonda ne success meet me ise 2026 ki Telugu cinema ki best films me se ek bataya.
- Negative voices: Ek viewer ne 1/5 diye — dono halves dull, nearly-3-hour runtime patience test karti hai. MensXP ne reactions ko “frustrating” aur “history without heart” kaha.
Audience Rating Trend — Aur Court Order
Audience rating ka trend Day 1 par ek legal twist ke saath aaya:
- BookMyShow par ratings/reviews disabled: Bengaluru court ne makers (Mythri Movie Makers) ko ex parte interim relief di — makers ne pre-release ‘review bombing’ ka aarop lagaya (bot networks, boycott calls). Court order ke baad BMS page par note hai: “Ratings & Reviews disabled as per court order.” Order X, YouTube, Google India, IMDb, Facebook/Meta ko bhi cover karta hai. Agli sunvai 6 November ko hai. (LiveLaw/Hindustan Times)
- Occupancy trend: Telugu shows me occupancy din bhar badhi — morning ~55% se night ~68% tak; overall ~57% (54.70% Telugu 2D). Ye pattern dikhata hai ki word-of-mouth pura negative nahi — evening/night walk-ins aaye.
- X (Twitter) reactions: Day-1 par chemistry, interval block aur production design sabse zyada praise hue; pacing, BGM aur second half sabse zyada criticize.
